Mumbai News Live: With 8,646 new COVID-19 cases, city reports the highest single-day spike
Mumbai on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike in new COVID-19 cases with 8,646 people testing positive for the virus. Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Thursday hinted that some restrictions could be introduced in the city from April 2 where hotels could be asked to operate at 50 per cent of the seating capacity and religious places might be shut completely. Train journeys might be restricted to only essential services staff as in the past. The active cases now in Mumbai city have crossed 55,000.
Strict quarantine, containment & contact-tracing order to Maharashtra districts
The state circular on fresh norms to curb the Covid wave said every new positive case should be marked on a map, following which districts should immediately detect if there are clusters - more than five cases in urban and 15 cases in rural areas. A micro containment zone should be carved out with 25 or more households under surveillance with strict perimeter control. Read story here

Two Nigerian drug peddlers were arrested in a raid in Mumbai last night. Drugs valued at Rs 1.5 crore approx in the international market were seized from them. Raids were conducted in Navi Mumbai and Jogeshwari areas. It was done based on the clues found after questioning of actor Ajaz Khan, NCB said.
